Grundfos dry pump rotor

Mechanical seals

The basis of design of the mechanical seal are two rings with carefully polished surfaces. They are pressed together by a spring, and work together. CTS are dynamic seals and are used for sealing a rotating shaft in a fluid at high operating pressures. Grundfos is composed of two highly polished wear rings (for example, silicone or graphite), which are pressed together by axial forces.

One ring (dynamic) rotates with the shaft, while the other ring (static) still fixed into the body. Between the sliding surfaces a thin film of water that serves as lubrication and cooling. Depending on the mode of operation of the pump are several possible types of friction mating surfaces: a mixed friction, boundary friction or dry friction, the latter (which occurs at no lubricating film) causes environment destruction of the surfaces.

The service life depends on operating conditions such as composition and temperature of the working fluid.

Mechanical Seals

The materials for seals use high quality yarn from synthetic fibers such as Kevlar ® or Twaron ®, PTFE, porous graphite yarn, yarn of synthetic mineral fibers and natural fibers such as hemp, cotton or ramie.

Material for the seals is available in the form of threads or compacted coils in dry form or with special impregnation depending on the destination. If the material is purchased in the form of threads, you must first form a ring and give it shape. Then, the ring gland is wrapped around the pump shaft and tightened using crimp sleeves.
